Project A10 (2026-29)

Causal Impacts of Pension Reforms on Socioeconomic and Political Outcomes

Pension systems are essential for welfare states, but vary in inclusiveness and generosity. This project investigates their socio-economic and political effects using data collected by the Sfb 1342 and other micro-sources. First, we use quasi-experimental methods to analyze how pension reforms affect fertility and investment in education. Second, we simulate the macroeconomic effects using a growth model. Third, we evaluate how reforms affect the re-election chances of incumbents in Latin America and Asia. The aim is to understand the socio-economic effectiveness and sustainability of pension reforms through micro and macro analyses.
